Reese Johnson was promoted to Deputy Director in July 2024 and oversees the Wastewater Engineering Division as MSD's Chief Engineer. He previously served as Superintendent of MSD's Compliance Services Division since 2019. Reese joined MSD in 2017 as a Principal Engineer, managing MSD's Operational Optimization program (Smart Sewers).
Prior to joining MSD, Reese worked for CH2M HILL (now Jacobs Engineering), the American Youth Foundation, and served on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard. Reese has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a Master of Engineering degree in civil and environmental engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Ohio and the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute. Reese currently serves as the Chair of the Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) Intelligent Water Technology Community.
In his current role, Reese is responsible for overseeing the majority of MSD's Wastewater Engineering Division. This includes Program Controls (support services), Planning (asset management & watershed planning, development services, and modeling), and Traditional Project Delivery, which is the design and construction management of traditionally procured capital projects.
